Meet Krista…

As a product of public schools and the daughter of a former middle school teacher, it is an honor to have the opportunity to represent the public in this important role as a Trustee with the Newport-Mesa Unified School District. I was born and raised in Orange County and have been blessed to call Newport Beach my home for nearly 20 years. I have a Master’s in Business Administration from the University of Southern California and currently serve as a National Account Manager for a Fortune 500 company. Most importantly, I am a mother to five-year-old twins who are attending Mariners Elementary.

I have held numerous volunteer positions as a university alumni advisor, supporting students through academics and extracurriculars. But my favorite volunteer role has been coaching my daughter’s soccer team. There’s nothing more rewarding than seeing children succeed whether scoring a goal, learning how to read or getting into the college of their dreams.

What I believe:

  • In the value of a quality public education.

  • The board needs to be comprised of community leaders and parents who have a stake in their children’s future. My children are just beginning their journey through Newport Mesa and I hope to shape their education for the better while they are enrolled.

  • Fiscal responsibility. Throughout my career I have been responsible for the profitability for product lines and brands. I will take this financial knowledge and utilize it when addressing the expenditures of the school district.

  • Communication. The school district needs to communicate and listen to all stake holders before making decisions. I’m a firm believer that over-communicating is better than nothing at all.

  • Transparency. The school district needs to be open and honest with the community on what plans or decisions they are making. The district needs to solicit and act on input from parents, students, teachers and the city. We cannot have the district make decisions about the future without the input from the community.

  • The value of a well-rounded student. Learning the most complicated subject does not mean anything if you cannot apply the concept into real life.

  • The importance of students' mental and emotional development. An education is only valuable when a student can emotionally handle the up and downs of life.
